Hey friend!! This is such an interesting post and I love how you shared a few that touch on the same topic. I'm going to read them right after I write this comment :) (I really adore how much you support other writers, it's so so kind!!)

First, I want to say I'm sorry to hear that Christianity put a lot of fear and confusion in your heart when you were growing up. I think that's a really common experience for a lot of us and it really only turns us off to the faith. I had my fair share of negative experiences, too. They suck.

That being said, once a lot of us get turned off about Christianity, we never turn back to it. What Christians did or said that hurt, confused, and scared us make us think that Christianity is just a fear-mongering cult. We tend to think that it's not worth it anymore. I was never planning on becoming a Christian again until I came across some really amazing people that taught me what it's really all about.

To make a long story short, the community is so so important. It can either make or break your experience.

But the reality is: the people portraying Christianity really hurt us, not Christianity itself. When we share who God is and how everything works, we put our own twist on things: fear, pain, confusion, ignorance.. the list goes on. It's kind of like a game of telephone - things get skewed and misunderstood. We are all guilty of that.

The faith is centered around Christ, of course. It's not Christ that hurts us, it's the people portraying Him. Yes, He holds us accountable which can be very uncomfortable, but that's because He loves us as we are. No matter how broken or doomed we are (or seem to be), He wants to be our friend and help us. Just like any true loved one you've had - they set boundaries and hold you accountable for things you've done wrong so that you can grow as a person.

From me to you, I really recommend you try to relearn who Jesus is and how we relate to Him. As your sister in Christ, I'm so so so more than willing to chat with you more about it and tell you about my experience if you would like! If not, that's totally fine. But I think if you look in the right places you'll be pleasantly surprised :) I'll be praying for your enlightenment!

Love and peace to you <3
